DOWNTOWN. Perhaps surprisingly, 15th Street Tavern is one of those seedy places that has become ultra-popular. Don't expect a well-heeled clientele, upscale ambience, or squeaky clean surroundings. Instead, you'll find quite the opposite ­ a down-to-earth crowd, casual atmosphere, and beer-stained carpets. You'll also discover pulsatingly loud punk and rock music performed by bands like the White Stripes, Dressy Bessy, Jimmy Eat World, Grant Hart, and Death Cab for Cutie.

EVERGREEN. There are few better places to hear live music west of Denver than Cactus Jack's year-round, creekside heated deck. Local and regional bluegrass, jam, and cover bands take the stage every Friday and Saturday, much to regulars' delight. When the snow starts falling, the party moves inside to a warm, wood-paneled space strung with Christmas lights and exuding a welcoming feel. You'll find eight beers on tap; a menu brimming with tasty appetizers, burgers, and sandwiches; and pool tables and video games to while away the evening.

UPTOWN. Not just a fancy sobriquet, Dazzle more than lives up to its name. The popular restaurant and bar is known for its funky interior and stylish clientele. You're sure to find something just right for your tastes, whether it's cocktails in the lounge or a full meal in the dining room. In fact, Dazzle's New American cuisine is nothing to overlook, and dishes like chicken risotto, roast pork loin, and Atlantic salmon are prepared with innovation and skill.

LODO. El Chapultepec has been hosting jazz and blues notables since 1951, including the likes of Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett. The place is small and usually crowded, but it's known throughout Denver as the city's best venue for live blues and jazz. A limited menu of drinks and Mexican food is offered, and you'll want to try the burritos, which are almost as legendary as the performers. Live music every single night, and never a cover charge! Two-drink minimum per set.

LODO. Fadó offers authentic Irish pub atmosphere with food, drink, and entertainment to match. Inside, the place features a quintessential dark-wood bar and plenty of "pub" ambiance, which is especially accommodating after the sun goes down and the place gets packed. Fadó frequently features live music ­ dancing is always encouraged! ­ as well as special events to celebrate football and rugby matches.
